Appleton House is a 24/7 residential treatment program for adults with psychotic and bipolar disorders.
The incumbent is responsible, directly or indirectly through delegated responsibility, for managing all aspects of the inquiry and admission process. The incumbent is also responsible directly or indirectly through delegated responsibility, for managing the programs existing referrer base along with actively working to expand the referrer base. The incumbent is responsible for organizing and implementing marketing activities related to the program. The incumbent is also responsible for managing a maximum of 4 clinical cases in the program as well as running a psychotherapy group.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. This candidate will be the main clinician responsible for the admission process. Independently makes clinical decisions as to whether patients are appropriate for admission to the program and reviews these decisions with the Program Directors prior to setting the admission date.
2. Responds to all inquiries regarding admission. Answers inquiries from parents related to possible admissions. Keeps a log of all calls and emails. Collects all relevant clinical information, (verbal and written) making plans for follow-up contact if necessary to determine appropriateness for admission. If the referral is determined to be appropriate for admission the admission is scheduled. Notifies patient accounts that the admission is scheduled and informs the patient/family to contact patient accounts prior to admission. Reviews all new admissions in team meetings. Provides review & assessment of client admissions
3. Gathers and reviews all medical history documentation with the Medical Director and Program Directors.
4. For each telephone inquiry, and to the extent possible for all email inquiries, determines how the caller found the program. The caller is asked if they have seen our print ads, as for example, in the New Yorker.
5. For each patient admitted, detailed information is collected regarding the professionals involved with the patient prior to admission, some of whom may have referred the patient. This data is entered into a database for future reference.
6. Performs all duties related to managing the admissions process outlined above in a professional, thoughtful, courteous manner reflecting the high degree of clinical sophistication that Mclean Hospital is synonymous with.
7. Identifies specialized, clinically appropriate aftercare placements for patients who require longer term care in either a Residential Treatment Program or a Therapeutic Boarding School setting. Works with therapists and patients' parents to arrange transition to the new program setting.
8. Provides consultation services to the program to identify and arrange after-care placements for residents who require longer-term treatment.
9. Acts as program liaison and develops collaborative relationships with programs that also serve the population of patients.
10. Collaborates with the McLean Hospital Marketing Director and participates in marketing of the program. This includes (but is not limited to) attending meetings and conferences where a high level of clinical knowledge is required to interact with psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health professionals deciding whether McLean has an appropriate program. Candidate may travel with Public Affairs professionals to conferences and will be the clinical "face" of the program, providing relevant and accurate clinical information about the programs that the Public Affairs staff is not able to provide.
11. Identifies unique marketing opportunities to promote the program and Mclean Hospital.
* Minimum 5 years of work experience in a psychiatric setting required.
* Advanced graduate training and independent licensure required due to evaluating fitness for admission, interacting with other clinicians and performing medical documentation (MSW, Ph.D., Psy.D., LMHC, MSN, etc.).

* The successful candidate will possess a high level of broad clinical skills along with personal qualities that allow one to be at ease in a variety of interpersonal situations. Given the highly demanding nature of processing admissions in a timely fashion while also more actively interacting with the referrer base will necessitate a high degree of flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm for managing competing task
* All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes
* Required to complete electronic medical records training and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.
