Overview

Waters Corporation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will own the design, prototyping and commercialization of chromatograph column hardware and bioanalysis microdevices. This position will provide a phenomenal opportunity for a passionate engineer to work on developing analytical tools to better characterize cell and gene therapy drugs and substances.

The successful candidate will become a key member of an interdisciplinary R&D team within Cell and Gene Portfolio responsible for developing chromatography columns and sample preparation devices. The candidate will support all R&D mechanical engineering needs including drafting engineering drawings and creating research hardware prototypes. This critical role will also conduct cutting-edge design and fabrication of novel micro-devices for fast and high-throughput analysis of large mass biologicals.

Responsibilities
    Use SolidWorks to build detailed technical drawings of new parts, 3D models, assembly drawings, and fabrication drawings of chromatography column hardware and microdevices.
  • Support all aspects of new engineering designs by executing engineering changes, crafting parts and building prototypes to meet R&D project needs.
Qualifications
  • PhD with 0-3 years, MS with 3-5 years and BS with 5-8 years of work experience after graduation with a major in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • High proficiency with 2D/3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
  • Experience with 3D printing technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with any of the following technologies are highly desirable. (1) Metallic sintered porous media, such as chromatographic column frits; (2) MEMS/microfabrication; (3) Plastic molding; (4) Prototyping microfluidics using PDMS or other prototyping methods; (5) Digital micromachining. (6) Miniaturized devices design and fabrication. (7) Vapor deposition.
  • Ability to prototype and fabricate mechanical components with precision.
  • Must be a highly organized, self-managed individual who works independently with minimum technical direction.
  • Ability to collaborate across organizations to build effective working relationships.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with the design of chromatography assemblies and parts is a plus. #LI-CB1
