Program Overview:

Our Professional Development Program (PDP) targets talented and ambitious developing professionals with high learning potential, strong personal values and ethics, and a passion for continuous learning. Designed to provide a unique, accelerated rotational experience, the program provides participants with an in-depth understanding of who we are and what we do here at Werfen that drives our passion for patient care.

The two-year program is broken down into four, six-month rotations across select departments and project teams. Your rotational assignments will prepare you for long term success at Werfen. The assignments can be customized to support your development and provide you with the knowledge and experience to support strategic technical leadership needs within Hardware Engineering.

Throughout your program experience, there will be regular discussions with your manager and the Program Lead to help identify options for career paths within Werfen. Unique networking opportunities, exposure to senior leadership and individual career coaching are available to all program participants.

Responsibilities

Position Description:

The R&D Professional Development Program (PDP) is a rotational program that exposes high potential individuals, with a passion for engineering and product innovation, to the exciting world of specialized diagnostics. As a worldwide leader in specialized diagnostics in the areas of Hemostasis, Acute Care Diagnostics, Transfusion, Autoimmunity, and Transplant - Werfen is committed to develop the next generation of technical leaders that power patient care. As a member of the Bedford technology center, the R&D PDP candidate will be exposed to departments and projects along the product development process in subject areas such as project engineering, design engineering, & process engineering. Candidates will also work closely with cross-functional stakeholders in areas such as project management, quality assurance, operations, and more.

Key Responsibilities/Objectives:

  • Work under the direction of a rotational manager within R&D and alongside rotational leads and/or mentors who will guide your understanding of each department and it's areas of responsibility
  • Work independetly as required to complete assigned deliverables within your department and/or for your assigned project(s)
  • Work in a cross functional project team environement comprised of technical and non-technical individuals with a wide-range of experiences and tenure
  • Maintain individual work plans and be able to communicate status of assignments
  • Contribute to project team presentations, reports, and/or reviews exhibiting strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Maintain compliance with required company and departmental trainings
  • Embrace and champion Werfen values as well as act as an embassador for your department(s) amongst your rotational cohort/peers

Intended Skills/Knowledge/Capabilities/Development:

Technical Proficiency

  • Possess a strong understanding of core-engineering principles and concepts
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using engineering tools and software for design, analysis, and simulation (e.g. CAD software, MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • Demonstrate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical engineering problems and projects
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify, analyze, and solve engineering problems in a systematic way
  • Exhibit aptitude for critical thinking and creativity to explore innovative approaches to problem solving.
  • Exhibit ability and/or willingness to maintain engineering documentation (e.g. lab-notebooks, technical reports, engineering drawings)

Communication Skills

  • Possess effective communications skills to convey technical information clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate complex subjects and concepts to diverse audiences including coilleagues, supervisors, and executives
  • Demonstrate active listening skills (e.g. eliciting requirements, gathering feedback, and collaborating effectively during discussions)
  • Demonstrate proificiency in use of communication tools (e.g. Outlook, Microsoft Office - including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Exhibit professionalism and high EQ (emotional quotient) when communicating with individuals or groups (includes social-media responsibility)

General Skills and Desired

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of customer needs and requirements in engineering design and development
  • Demonstrate a genuine curiosity for how things work (e.g. product level, system or instrument level, sub-system level, and thru component level)
  • Ideally, possess an understanding of controls engineering and/or controls theory
  • Ideally, demonstrate analytical and instrumental analysis methods (e.g. measurement basics, separation methods, etc.)

    Qualifications

    Candidate Profile:

    Individuals interested in applying for the Professional Development Program should meet the following criteria:

    Education: Undergraduate degree required in either of the following engineering disciplines: Electrical Engineering (EE), [Electrical]Computer Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.

    Graduate degree desirable with a strong preference for candidates that have specialized in either of the following areas: Control Systems Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Machine Design, Manufacturing Technologies, or Instrumental Analysis.

    Experience: 0-4 years of professional work experience
