Description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of duties within the Hospital, within any building on the Hospital campus, or anywhere on the hospital campus as directed to ensure all facilities are operating optimally as part of the Hospital's commitment to an environment which enhances the quality of patient care.

  • Prioritizes emergency and routine trouble calls and takes necessary action to correct problems quickly with an emphasis on patient, staff, and visitor safety.
  • Respond immediately to any emergency call directly affecting any patient, visitor, or employee safety such as Code Red, Code Triage, flooding, electrical failure, etc., without variance as noted by the Supervisor of Maintenance, the Assistant Director of Facilities, or the Director of Facilities, or in daily logs and interdepartmental feedback.
  • Responds as directed and as the workload permits to routine trouble calls, such as blocked sinks, pneumatic tube system resets, etc., responding to 100% of calls taken per shift, as noted by the Supervisor of Maintenance and recorded in the daily logs.
  • Accurate recording of the nature of a trouble call and efforts extended to resolve the issue is mandatory.
  • Performs repairs as directed and/or required on mechanical equipment in various areas of the Hospital, in any building on the Hospital campus, or anywhere on the Hospital campus to ensure proper operation and to assist other departments in the performance of their duties and to maintain sanitation, safety, and comfort of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Repairs to portable mechanical equipment, including carts, dietary equipment, and O.R. non-patient care equipment with a completion rate of 80% per task assigned as observed by the Supervisor of Maintenance and recorded in daily logs.
  • Repairs to fixed electro-mechanical equipment and systems, including the dish machine, disposals, pneumatic tubes, etc., with a 70% completion rate as assigned and observed by the Supervisor of Maintenance.
  • Repair and maintain all water supply and waste systems throughout the hospital to facilitate infection control and maintain sanitation code. Assigned tasks shall be allowable under the State plumbing code as appropriate for a non-licensed plumber to complete.
  • Repair minor plumbing leaks, clear blockages, and associated tasks as allowed by the State plumbing code for a non-licensed plumber.
  • Repairs to structural and architectural systems including doors, locks, floors, ceilings, minor roofing defects, to ensure safety, security, and aesthetic integrity throughout the Hospital and/or any building on the Hospital campus.
  • Complete repairs on these systems at a rate of 80% per task assigned as observed by the Supervisor of Maintenance and recorded in daily logs.
  • Assist the Supervisor of Maintenance, as directed, to perform or direct appropriate repairs to a building's external surfaces including roofing, glazing, and caulking of wall surfaces.
  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance on mechanical, electro-mechanical, and fire protection systems in a timely and conscientious manner to minimize emergency repairs, unscheduled equipment downtime and provide adherence to established fire codes. This includes the weekly inspection of all assigned fire sprinkler system isolation/zone valves and related electronic monitoring components.
  • Expedite work orders from all departments involving ancillary tasks such as moving bulletin boards, assembling furniture etc., to assist in the everyday operations of all departments. Emphases should be on conscientious and timely completion of work orders. Department policy dictates that at least 80% of work orders be completed within 60 days of issue.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school education is required.
  • Ability to read and write in English, and effectively communicate with staff, vendors, patients, and visitors is required.
  • Minimum of two years of maintenance/mechanic experience is required, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
  • The Maintenance Mechanic should be a mechanically inclined individual who is familiar with the use of common hand and power tools.
  • The Maintenance mechanic must follow all product use and warning instructions on all product packaging and ensure that all products purchased and stocked have an MSDS on file with the Assistant Director of Facilities
  • The Maintenance Mechanic is a very active, physical, hands-on position. The Maintenance Mechanic must be capable of lifting 75 pounds from a ground elevation to a shoulder height elevation.
