General Summary/Overview Statement

The Mass General Brigham (MGB) Digital Epic Platform Architect/Clinical Informatics Lead for Research is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the Epic build that supports research activities to ensure an excellent researcher experience. Supported research activities include (but are not limited to) patient recruitment and enrollment in studies, reporting, clinical trial support, research workflow design and build, and integration of third-party research tools with Epic. This role will report to the MGB Digital Associate Chief Clinical Informatics Officer and, in combination with the other Epic Platform Architects/Clinical Informatics Leads, will lead the creation, maintenance, and implementation of content for the Epic system. The Platform Architect/Clinical Informatics Lead collaborates closely with Epic Application and Epic Portfolio Management teams, site CMIOs, the VP of Digital Research Operations, and staff and subject matter experts across the enterprise.

The person in this role, in partnership with other digital relationship managers, will be responsible for developing and maintaining key site leadership and stakeholder relationships across the MGB research community, as appropriate, and in sustaining stakeholder engagement through the life cycle of digital health initiatives and ensuring that all clinical content is appropriately tracked and managed longitudinally.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as Epic Platform Architect/Clinical Informatics Lead for the Epic research products and build, and in that role, have a thorough understanding of the product's capabilities, upcoming upgrades, and Epic's longer term roadmap for research.
  • Leverage this knowledge to manage solutions across the Epic application that are both clinically relevant and technologically feasible within the Epic software.
  • Together with the application teams and Office of the CMIO, develop internal MGB roadmap for Epic build to support the overall MGB Enterprise strategic goals.
  • Accountable for the success of Research solution design and maintenance in close collaboration with associated Portfolio Manager and Epic Application team resources.
  • Chair project team and stakeholder meetings to effectively manage design and build process.
  • Stay current on broader technology trends and research and use this knowledge to inform the effective design and implementation of solutions at MGB
  • Consistently engage in quality and process improvement activities to improve team performance
  • Collaborate closely with enterprise leadership groups that oversee related but non-Epic systems including the MGB Digital Research Experience Pillar leaders.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the career development of clinical informatics team members.
  • Contributes to the broader community of health IT professionals through active participation in ongoing professional education, conference presentation, and/or publication.
  • Participates in on-call coverage
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Chief Medical Information Officer and Associate Chief Clinical Informatics Officer.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Respected healthcare leader with 3-5 years leadership experience and experience managing complex projects.
  • Experience with clinical informatics activities.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and project teams.
  • Experience chairing and facilitating committees.
  • Experience with change management.
  • Epic certification preferred. Willingness to obtain and maintain Epic certification required.
  • Experience creating and maintaining build in Epic preferred. Willingness to achieve proficiency and regularly build in Epic required.
  • Clinical informatics board certified or board eligible preferred for MDs.
  • Clinical licensure and ongoing practice required (physician, physician assistant, nurse, nurse practitioner, pharmacist etc).
  • Research experience required. Ongoing research activities preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical workflow
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to progress, customer service and teamwork
