Job Objective: Facilitate and implement management objectives in departmental safety, overall task assignments, optimization of technical processes, administer training, mentoring, and procedural / environmental / safety compliance in a team environment. Operate plastics extrusion and converting equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Insure preparation, startup, operation, preventative maintenance of all manufacturing equipment, and insure the manufacture of quality products that meets or exceeds customer expectations.

2nd Shift: 3pm-11pm

Essential Job Functions:Includes, but not limited to:

  • Function independently in an unsupervised environment accepting responsibility for product quality, safety, productivity, and process compliance.
  • Ensure that all HTH extrusion and tooling equipment is kept in a safe, and proper working condition.
  • Ensure that all department activities are conducted safely and all safety concerns are addressed immediately.
  • Train and mentor new personnel (safety, equipment, materials, quality, packaging, power lifts, procedures, and processes).
  • Ensure the accurate and defect free completion of scheduled tool builds, die preparation, and roll preparation.
  • Perform all extrusion line set ups, changeovers, start-ups, process optimization and continuous operation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or quality issues concerning extrusion machinery, plastics processes, tooling, dies and rolls.
  • Demonstrate a materials familiarity with plastics, metals, cleaning agents and lubricants.
  • Perform departmental preventative maintenance assignments.
  • Facilitate in the daily inventorying of all tooling, dies, rolls and all other extrusion equipment.
  • Comply with standard operating procedures, control plans, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Assist management in procedural reviews, revisions, and establishment of new procedures.
  • Perform duties in compliance to Quality Standard ISO/TS 16949, and Environmental Standard ISO 14001.
  • Monitor and approve quality of work in process, semi finished, and finished products.
  • Participate in projects for 6S methods in cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Utilize Six Sigma / Lean tools to characterize and improve processes.
  • Maintain accuracy in production reporting, downtime, sampling, and data entry.
  • Interface, communicate and work directly with other departments including Maintenance, Supply Chain, Engineering to drive consistency and continuous improvement across all areas of the department.
  • Move chemicals and or waste within the facility.
  • Maintain the chemical storage area(s) and/or waste storage area(s) in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Packages, labels, and prepares wastes for storage and transportation as requested.
  • Inspects the facility and equipment regularly, notifies appropriate personnel of any incidents or occurrences that may trigger implementation of the Contingency Plan.
  • May perform additional emergency response activities, including assisting in stopping or containing a release, as directed by the emergency coordinator.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

  • Three years experience in plastic extrusion, manufacturing technology, and/or related experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical Certificate in related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literacy at the Word/Excel level.
  • Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to self pace learning including book, web-base and classroom participation.


Desired:

  • Associates Degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Five years experience in plastics processing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing resource planning systems.
  • Six Sigma certification at the Green Belt level.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experienced power lift operator.
