Description
Under the guidance of the Technical Director of the Central Processing Department (CPD), the CPD Operations Manager develops and implements strategic planning initiatives of sterile reprocessing operations across the main BWH campus. The CPD Operations Manager is responsible for managing all employee relations including staffing, action planning, corrective action, leadership and training. The CPD Manager is also expected to collaborate with fellow managers & colleagues across Brigham & Women's Hospital in order to ensure policies and procedures are carried out and all departmental goals are developed and met.

Job duties and responsibilities may vary by department (see addendum A for more detail)

  • Direct management of supervisory levels of the department (3 FTE's), with overall responsibility of 89 FTE's.

  • Must be able to have fully functional knowledge in all areas of the Central Processing Department.

  • In collaboration with the CPD Quality & Compliance Educator and CPD Ambulatory Training Specialist & QA Officer, must create, edit, and implement CPD training curriculums and complete yearly competency assessments as required.

  • Directs and oversees all operations of central reprocessing operations at the BWH Main Campus in a fiscally-responsible and ethical manner.

  • Ensures the regulatory compliance of the CPD and prepares the department for surveys accordingly.

  • Engages actively in self-development to support expertise in the department and quality in the practice setting.

  • Coordinate departmental in-services with instrument vendors as required.

  • Record keeping of employee documents pertaining to their required certification, work history and on-going professional development.

  • Must be able to provide statistics and analytical data accordingly in order track trends that will contribute to the quality assurance of the CPD.

  • Annually reviews job descriptions of employees and adjusts as necessary.

    • Evaluates the performance of the supervisory staff and provides guidance to them in their evaluation of employees for merit reviews.

    • Implements staffing patterns which ensure all departmental needs are met.

    • Monitors productivity of staff and resolves problems as necessary.

    • Holds regular staff meetings and ensures timely and accurate communication of information.

    • Ensures that day-to-day responsibilities of the department are met.

    • Develops safety standards within the department. Monitors standards in terms of regulatory compliance and industry standards.

    • Makes decisions regarding use of overtime and monitors that its use is within budgetary guidelines.

    • Constantly evaluates products and processes used in reprocessing functions and the Case Cart System to maintain effectiveness and utilization of resources.

    • Ensures that all requirements of the surgical team are met as needed to maximize realization of OR revenue, i.e. prevent delays in surgical cases due to equipment failures.

Qualifications
    • High school diploma / GED required

    • 5 years+ experience in a central processing setting.

    • 2-5+ years of leadership experience.

    • CRCST/CBSPD Certification mandatory.

    • Working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and materials.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Good interpersonal skills.

    • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications and instruments tracking systems; ability to learn additional software as required.
