The Manager, Professional Development in Education (PDE) will manage planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of PDE offerings, and establish hospital-wide collaborations for PDE initiatives.
As a resource hub for health professions educators (HPEs), the Center for Educational Excellence and Innovation (CEEI) provides support and coaching in professional development in education. The CEEI empowers health professionals to supervise and educate students, trainees, and learners in delivering comprehensive, safe patient care.
Professional Development in Education (PDE), a core domain of the Center, aims to enhance HPEs' skills through programming, resource sharing, and community building, while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion for health professional learners.

Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Develop teaching standards, train educators, and design programs enhancing clinical teaching and educational scholarship.
  2. Oversee educational consultation services spanning curriculum development, educator development, and scholarship.
  3. Establish priorities, mentorship, and training programs to support educational research and career growth opportunities for HPEs.
  4. Implement foundational curricula, certificate programs, and resources to build HPEs' skills in areas like coaching, research methods, and executive education.
  5. Where necessary, certify hospital programs in professional development in education adhere to established standards.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge about current trends, challenges, and research studies in health professions education.
  7. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in education across all efforts.

Principal Duties:

  1. Provide oversight, facilitation, and evaluation of core PDE activities.
  2. Spearhead development and implementation of teaching standards; work across the CEEI and with hospital departments to train educators and help foster and promote their educational scholarly and innovative endeavors.
  3. Design, facilitate, and evaluate programs to improve health professionals' teaching knowledge and skills.
  4. Identify opportunities, form collaborations, and manage CEEI intensive training and master's programs in health professions education.
  5. Establish enterprise-wide presentations on foundational teaching principles and practices.
  6. Lead training/mentoring programs for health professional educator research investigators.
  7. Streamline processes for educational consultations on curriculum development, program design, and scholarly writing.
  8. Create centralized repository promoting educational resources and communication.
  9. Develop and oversee certificate programs in areas such as coaching, education research/innovation, executive education.
  10. Establish criteria for certifying educational programs seeking CEEI certification.

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree in educational or professional development fields plus at least 5 years related professional experience. MA/MS preferred.
  • Analytical, diplomacy, negotiation, problem-solving skills and flexibility to achieve innovative solutions within a fast-paced and dynamic hospital setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with faculty locally and nationally, and make scholarly contributions to the field.
  • Experience/organizational skills in curricula and programmatic development.
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in group facilitation skills.
