Under the direction of the Simulation Center Clinical Nurse Program Manager, the Simulation Technology Specialist provides technical and administrative support for simulation operations. The Simulation Technology Specialist is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and repair of high-fidelity human patient simulators (software and hardware), task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals. The Simulation Technology Specialist will assist in scheduling, coordinating, and tracking attendance for simulation programs under the supervision of the Simulation Leadership team.

  • Ensures simulation equipment and audiovisual components are configured and dismantled with a focus on readiness for simulation programs.
  • Utilizes and conducts routine medical and simulation equipment maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Interfaces with manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems; maintain records of repairs.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of common medical equipment and associated resources.
  • Evaluates new equipment and identifies opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.
  • Serves as a simulator operator by running and testing scenarios with faculty instructors.
  • Provides technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of audiovisual system and monitors.
  • Operates various simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task-trainers to full body high fidelity human patient simulators.
  • Participates in technical training as necessary.
  • Establishes relationships amongst technical staff of similar simulation centers to foster professional growth and development.
  • Participates in simulation scenarios, both in the Simulation Center and the patient care units.
  • Installs software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of human patient simulator components as directed by manufacturer.
  • Participates in training faculty and other Simulation Center staff in the operational aspects of simulation.
  • Communicates in a positive and professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other Simulation Center users.
  • Assists with other special projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Supports Simulation Center users in the use of equipment, software, and hardware.
  • Understands and applies standard precautions when working with biological materials.
  • Ensures safety by generating pre- and post-simulation checklists of supplies for on-site activities.
  • Maintains case scenarios and setup guidance.
  • Promotes an environment that fosters creative thinking, new ideas, professional growth, adult learning, open communication, and collaborative relationships.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule to meet the needs of staff on all shifts.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Coordinates access, availability, and scheduling of simulation spaces and resources.
  • Maintains documents and records in support of simulations.
  • Maintains detailed data on Simulation Center's utilization, learning hours, and participants.
  • Tracks supplies and equipment needs.
  • Provides tours to internal and external entities in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
  • Collects participant evaluations.
  • Utilizes the hospitals' computer-based learning management system.
  • Updates and maintains the Simulation Center's Intranet site.
  • Prepares the simulation environment to accurately represent a clinical setting using real and simulated clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures Simulation Center is organized, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Maintains, cleans, and stores supplies after use.
  • Ensures equipment is properly labeled and identified as "Not for Human Use. For Education Only."
  • Disposes of equipment and items appropriately.
  • Manages inventory and supplies.
  • Ensures preparation and storage areas are maintained and clean, safe, and orderly manner and complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Researches, creates, applies, and removes moulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase realism.
  • Portrays the role of the patient, family member or other scenario participant as directed.
Qualifications Education * High School Diploma/GED required * Bachelor's degree in an educational, social science, or healthcare related field preferred * Specialized training in simulation technology required Experience * 2-3 years' experience in healthcare or related field required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations (if applicable) * Certification in Medical Simulation preferred Job Knowledge and Skills

* Knowledge of computer hardware, software applications, or audio/video equipment relevant to healthcare required

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required

* Knowledge of patient simulation services, technologies, and applications preferred

* Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons required
