Join our Tax Product and Practice Team as a Tax Research Analyst

The U.S. Tax Research Analyst supports the Product and Practice needs of our investor Services business. Reporting to the Head of U.S. Tax Practice, in this role you will be responsible for all aspects technical research, practice development, and assurance related to our U.S. Tax Withholding and Information Reporting compliance and U.S. Tax Services functions. You will be accountable for oversight and responsible for the definition of practice, research, communication, and timely execution of all deliverables as well as ensuring that both internal and external clients receive consistently high levels of service. You will be also ensuring transparency, delivering status updates and reporting to augment department level management reporting. The role will include managing, mitigating, and escalating risk related to areas of direct and indirect responsibility, as well as continually improving effectiveness and efficiency of our U.S. tax withholding, information reporting, and servicing environment. Your focus will be to serve as tax lead and as an agent of change working with our business, clients, and third parties to communicate and implement both new and changes to existing tax products and services. In addition, you will lead and coordinate cross-departmental and cross-organizational efforts in support of product, service, and compliance initiatives.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor, review and communicate legislative and regulatory developments in the space of U.S. income tax withholding and information reporting
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on all aspects of U.S. nonresident alien ("NRA") withholding and information reporting requirements, including but not limited to, Chapters 3 and 4, sections 302, 305(c), 871(m), 1446(f), 305(c), etc.
  • Define, develop, and implement strategic solutions for critical tax related requirements.
  • Assist in the validation of U.S. tax documentation (Forms W-8 and W-9)
  • Liaison with BBH's Responsible Officer on Automatic Exchange of Information ("AEOI") discipline, including but not limited to, Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act ("FATCA") and Common Reporting Standard ("CRS") related matters
  • Write, review, and implement procedures to maintain and improve tax compliance related activities.
  • Assist in the response and resolution of U.S. information reporting and withholding tax-related IRS or other regulatory matters
  • Identify and escalate tax related business, process, and risk issues, that may result in financial, client or business impact and drive recommendation and resolution with Sr. Management.
  • Cultivate and develop excellent client service relationships through informative and proactive communication on tax related issues.
  • Identify opportunities to differentiate BBH from our market peers through products, services, insights, innovation, and publications,
  • Strengthen team through knowledge sharing
  • Identify and manage process improvement projects

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in tax advisory or tax operations supporting U.S. withholding and reporting discipline
  • Strong understanding of core U.S. income taxation, including requirements related to U.S. residents and nonresident aliens ("NRA"), including Qualified Intermediaries
  • Experience with U.S. tax reporting, including Forms 1099 and 1042-S
  • Demonstrated success to translate regulatory guidance into design solutions for risk mitigation and to fulfill compliance mandates
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when working with high volumes of data
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong experience in tax, project management, and operating model development.
  • Ability to multitask and manage aspects in a changing requirement.
  • Motivated and focused on continuous improvement based on the technical and complex.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment and under deadlines and time pressures.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly client focused.
