Job Summary:

Your position as Peer Support Worker at the Peer Support Network (PSN) supports our mission by maintaining programing at the Metro Boston Recovery Learning Community, a consortium led by Boston Medical Center. This program requires peers to facilitate and lead groups including employment, wellness, and recovery groups of various kinds at locations throughout the Metro Boston area. This is a non-exempt position.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Conduct a variety of recovery-oriented groups, such as Recovery is Real, Dealing with Conflict, Self-Esteem and Assertiveness, Anger Management, and Job Club.
  • Function as an onsite manager in the absence of the Director of Recovery.
  • Keep track of participant attendance and answer any questions directed to peer counselors by participants.
  • Lead Employment, Recovery and Wellness support groups in the Metro Boston community.
  • Represent the MBRLC/PERC/PSN as a liaison to community partners as a voluntary peer run program that exists to meet the needs of consumers and consumer/providers.
  • Assist participants in locating suitable employment by utilizing community and online resources.
  • Commitment to learning WRAP, WHAM and Facilitation Training.
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.

  • Ability to share personal life experiences to support people in their recovery.
  • Ability to be flexible, independent and responsible.
  • Ability to communicate PERC/PSN's mission and support self-help recovery community activities.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals working for different agencies and systems to build and strengthen a supportive recovery community.
  • Ability to write resumes, cover letters, and provide employment preparation.
  • Ability to teach participants how to use the computer more effectively.
  • Ability to help job seekers find satisfying careers.

Qualifications:

  • High School degree or high school equivalency diploma or 1 year experience as peer facilitator.
  • Knowledge of recovery strategies, peer group facilitation, and effective listening.
  • A willingness to share "one's own story" with individuals attending PERC/PSN.
  • An acceptable CORI (criminal record assessment).
  • Can demonstrate sufficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
