Director of Business Development - Acute Services

The Director of Business Development - Acute Services is responsible for acquiring contracts and developing and maintaining relationships with hospitals and health systems to grow the footprint of Innovative Renal Care (IRC) in the Midwest and Northeast. Relationships built and maintained will include, but are not limited to, kidney disease management, care coordination, new dialysis centers, new acute dialysis centers, joint venture partnerships, acquisitions, medical directorships, and discharge planning. This position will acquire, manage, and deepen these partner relationships over time and engage regularly to extend offerings, tools, and resources, as appropriate for the provider.

Essential Functions:

  1. Account Development & Management
    • Serve as a development lead in account planning and growth initiatives that.
    • Drive long-term growth as a port of the leadership team within business development and in partnership with field leaderships to enhance and extend IRC's service offerings.
  2. Strategy
    • Partner with key hospital leadership and internal operational leaders to understand the healthcare landscape.
    • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities and threats.
    • Develop plans to achieve IRC's objectives related to revenue, EBITDA, capital, presence, and other key measures.
    • Educate/cascade internally for alignment.
  3. Transactions
    • Source, develop and negotiate complex renal partnerships with hospitals. Examples include medical director agreements, management service agreements, acute contracts, purchase agreements, operating agreements, and hospital service agreements.
  4. Collaboration
    • Lead cross-functional teams and serve as core liaison between hospital systems.
    • Develop strong relationships with external and internal customers. Teams and resources may include operations, strategy, finance, mergers and acquisitions, legal, human resources, marketing, acute services, and payor contracts.
  5. Partner Relationships
    • Develop, manage, and track executive relationships with hospitals, systems, and related stakeholders.
    • Assist with partner selection for strategic opportunities.
    • Lead engagement with potential partners, including post-acute care leadership in select geographies.
  6. Communication
    • Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills and an in-depth understanding of IRC operations and clinical services to develop strategies to meet growth goals.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Depending on business needs this position may have supervisory responsibility for some roles within the business development department. If applicable, responsibilities include working with leadership to coordinate scheduling and delegation of work, interviewing, training and orientation of new staff, and performance evaluation and management.

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work & Travel:

This is a full-time. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to and 5:00 p.m. Travel is expected for this position and may be outside the area and overnight.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required. MBA, MPH or relevant graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of work experience in the healthcare industry with a dialysis, health system, payor or provider. Other relevant experience (e.g., management consulting, private equity, investment banking, or pharmaceutical/device industry) may be considered instead.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry dynamics (e.g., cost, quality, reimbursement, physician practice management, and risk-sharing)
  • Strategic planning and execution experience.
